How to Plant Tomato Plants
Everyone’s favorite summer time veggie requires careful planting and care. Growing organically? It can be even more difficult. Here are some guidelines to ensure your tomatoes thrive and are delicious all summer long:
Tomato Planting Steps:
- Planting Requirements: Full Sun – Did you know the term “Full Sun” means 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Be sure to chose an area that receives a minimum of 6 hours of full sun each day. To locate the sun’s patterns for your home or farm, type in your address on this sun tracker site.
- Plant Size: A tomato plant requires a sturdy base and support system. When the plant is big enough to fill up a 4″ pot it can go in the ground.
- Spacing: Tomatoes require 2-3 feet of space in between each plant depending on the variety (long vined or bushy).
- Support: A support system is required for all tomatoes. Chose a stake, trellis, or cage depending on variety. Place support system immediately.
