CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Essentially, it is an investment in a farm (or farms) of choice in order to provide a variety of food for you. That food is organically grown, harvested fresh, and made available for pick up at a convenient location. By supporting your community’s agricultural economy you are making healthy, organic, and chemical-free food more available. Most importantly: You know and trust where your food is coming from. Finally, you can enjoy the many benefits of eating delicious organic produce that is freshly picked and in season!
Homegirl’s is a USDA Certified Organic Farm and is committed to providing chemical-free, non GMO produce to our CSA Members. For more information on our Woodstock, GA CSA click here.
The Classic CSA Membership Model:
Also knows as a Grower’s Choice Share, the classic CSA Membership will include a variety of in-season crops each week. Homegirl’s Farm provides the Classic CSA Model because it provides and understanding of how the weather and season affect what we eat and the agricultural business. When joining a CSA, you join in with the risks and the rewards of the farming industry. For example: If there is heavy rain that season, the tomatoes won’t produce as well and may become diseased, but on the other hand weather conditions may make for a heavy lettuce crop. Most of the CSA weeks you will see plentiful baskets (more than you paid for) and occasionally you might not receive as much of one item as you’d hoped. The best way to think of it, is having a home garden without having to work on it!
Our Woodstock, GA Classic CSA Membership Shares will include 6-8 items per week, for example:
Week 1: 4 beets, 1 head broccoli, 1 bunch kale, 1 bunch salad mix, garlic, green onion, half dozen eggs
Week 2: 1 head cabbage, 1 bunch collards, 1 head lettuce, 1 lb peas, 6 turnips, basil & rosemary
Week 3: 1 qt strawberries, 1 bunch cilantro, 8 bunch radishes, 1 head cauliflower, 1 bunch salad mix, green onions, 1 bunch mustard greens
